Everything You Need to Know About Mrs. Walley’s First Grade Class!

Supplies:
You will find the supply list on the ROA webpage. I will also send a list home. PLEASE only put your scholar's name on the 3-ring binder. The rest of the supplies on the list will be for community use. If you want to send a pencil box with extra supplies to go in your scholar's desk, put their name on this.

Absences:
Anytime your scholar is absent from school (sickness, doctor’s appointment, death in the family, etc.), you must send in a note to explain the absence. Without a note, your scholar’s absence will result in an UNEXCUSED absence.

Allergies:
Please make me, the school nurse, and the office staff aware of ANY allergies your scholar may have. A doctor’s note is required in order to send in medication that your scholar may need to take while at school. Also, let us know of any special medical conditions your scholar may have.

Assignments:
Assignments are expected to be completed and turned in on time. By not completing assignments, it will affect your scholar’s academic progress throughout the year and also send a message that school isn’t important.

Bathroom Breaks:
Because of the importance of limiting class disruptions, scholars are strongly encouraged to use the bathroom before coming to the classroom in the mornings and during class restroom breaks.

Classroom Rules:
Our class will discuss appropriate classroom/school behaviors and expectations.

Our behavior procedures are as follows:
*When a scholar does not follow the rules, he or she will have to “pull a card”. Each day everyone begins on green. When a rule is broken, the scholar will have to pull their card and change it to yellow. If rules continue to be broken, the scholar will pull their card and change it to orange. Next, the card will change from orange to red.

• Green – Great Behavior!
• Yellow – Warning
• Orange – Time Out/Note home to parent/guardian
• Red – Office Referral/Parent called

Discipline:
All scholars have the right to learn in a safe and stress-free environment. NO scholar has the right to interfere with another scholar’s right to learn. Any behavior that disrupts the learning process or threatens a scholar’s safety, will NOT be tolerated. Every effort will be made to positively reinforce appropriate classroom behavior.

Grades:
Progress reports and report cards will be sent home one time each per quarter. Scholars are responsible for bring home progress reports and report cards as well as bringing them back SIGNED by a parent/guardian. Scholars are graded using the numbers 1, 2, 3.

2 = Inconsistently masters the skill or objective.
3 = Consistently shows mastery of the skill or objective.

Make-Up Work:
Scholars will always be given an opportunity to make-up missed work from an absence. The work will be sent home with the scholar and returned by Friday of that week.

Media Center:
If your scholar checks out a book(s), he/she is expected to take care of it and return it to the media center on time. Overdue fines and/or damage fees may be assessed. If you have questions about lost or damaged books, please contact Ms. Clark in the Media Center.

Progress:
I keep all grades in my online grade book on Engrade. You will receive a log in for your scholar so you will be able to keep up with grades as I enter them.
