Beginning Letter
Welcome to First Grade!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to first grade. I am sure you are as excited
as I am to begin the new year. Together, with your help, we
can make this a wonderful year.
The following is a list of things you can do to help us get off to a great beginning:
- Every student needs to bring in the supplies from the list. Please bring to the Open House or the first day of school.
- Students are not allowed to bring toys to school. Please make sure your child keeps toys at home! If I have to take a toy from a student, I will label it with their name and put it away until the end of the year. Parents may pick up the toy at anytime.
- Be sure your child has lunch money in his or her account. Send a check with student lunch ID written on the front. If your child chooses to bring a lunch, a bag or a lunch box with name is necessary.
- We will be spending 6 to 8 minutes each day walking or running the track as part of our fitness program. Please make sure your child wears appropriate shoes each day. Rubber sole shoes are best.
- Please let me know if your child has any special needs or allergies. Our bathroom is inside of the classroom, but we will have several breaks each day. I will try to accomodate any special needs.
- If your child is absent from school, a note explaining the absence is necessary. Please do not forget this.
- If your child is going home from school a different way than usual, a note from home is required before we can make the change. Please state who is picking them up or what bus or change is made.
- Please check your child's folder each night. (Students will have homework each night except Friday.) Within your child's homework folder you will find a calendar. Daily I will mark this calendar with a color. The color will keep you informed of your child's behavior in the classroom. (Green means a good day, yellow means your child has been given a warning, and red means your child has been given a logical consequence for his/her actions.) Please initial each day so that I know you have reviewed it.
- On Monday, your child will bring home the communication folder. Keep at home all papers on the side marked (Keep at Home), and send back signed all papers on the side marked (Bring Back to School.)
- Students should not bring any gum to school. It is a policy at our school that NO GUM be allowed! Please respect this rule and do not allow your child to bring any to school.
Thank you in advance for your
support. Please feel free to send a note or contact me by phone,
email (ahwjew@bellsouth.net), or on my web page (www.awalley2001.com)
as needed. I feel that communication between us is very important!
