Volunteering in the Classroom
Volunteers Needed!!!
We Need You in Our Class!

Make a memory with your children, spend
some time to show you care; Toys
and trinkets can't replace those precious
moments that you share.

Why Volunteer?
        Students whose parents are
    involved in their schooling tend
    to be more successful
    academically. According to the
    National Center for Educational
    Statistics, "School-aged children
are more likely to get mostly
A's, to enjoy school, and to
    participate in extracurricular
    activities, and are less likely
to have ever repeated a grade
and to have ever been suspended
or expelled if their fathers or
    mothers have high levels of
    involvement in their schools."

        The National Education
    Association concludes that when
    parents assist teachers with their
everyday duties, they allow the teacher
to have more time to plan activities,
try new teaching strategies, and work
    directly with children.

The following list gives some ideas of what you can do to help us out. As a parent, grandparent, or guardian, you know your strengths and talents. Volunteer for those things that you feel comfortable doing.

1.    READ - Parents will read different books onto tapes enabling students to better understand and comprehend the material. This activity will require a clear and accurate oral reader.

2.    FIELD TRIP CHAPERONE - Without parents on field trips, we cannot have the adequate supervision necessary to provide assured safety. If you are willing to devote a day to our field trips, we would appreciate it. These parents must be willing to discipline small groups, keep their group in sight at all times, and enjoy the company of young people! All Parents must fill out appropriate paperwork with the office before trip.

3.    TUTORING - If you are willing to devote 30 to 60 minute chunks of your time, there are children who need your extra attention. These volunteers must be patient but firm in giving aid to students who could use an extra bit of help. You may be drilling flash cards, studying vocabulary words, working on homework assignments, doing research in the library or on the Internet, or proofreading writing assignments.

4.    OTHER NEEDS - If you see a need that you feel you can help with that I have not mentioned, please contact me!!! I would be grateful to have you help in any way that you feel will be an asset to our students.

5.    ROOM PARENT - This is a parent who can take responsibility for organizing. It may be for classroom parties or volunteering. Anything that could assist the teacher.

Please remember to talk to your child before you come so they know that you are there to help ALL of the students and not just them. Help your child to understand that they will still have to respect our class rules and stay on task.
